‘I work in HR – here’s why you should never tell your coworkers about your weekend’ | UK | News

A woman has revealed why you should never talk to your colleagues about your weekend – and it has left people in some difficult situations. Georgia Dixon, who works in HR, took to TikTok to share advice after experiencing the brunt of it having previously discussed her weekend plans with colleagues.

Georgia said she had to learn « the hard way », explaining: « I used to fall victim to the Monday morning ‘Oh, did you have a nice weekend? What did you get up to?’ I used to think they were just being really nice and I’d give them a running commentary of Friday through to Sunday, talking about seeing family, friends, drinking, being hungover, then being a slob, watching Netflix.

« What I was doing in my spare time, I used to share with them. But then I realised that the more I did that, they kind of used it against me. It was a little bit like they had some ammunition against me.

« If I was a little bit poorly or tired during the week, they would be like ‘Oh are you still hungover?' »

She continued: « They attached it to my productivity. It used to really wind me up so when people ask me now, I don’t tell them. Because people will use it against you. »

Georgia added that it « leaves you vulnerable » and warned others to learn from her mistake and « not overshare ».

And it appears Georgia isn’t the only one who has suffered the consequences, with one viewer commenting: « I asked for a pay rise and they suggested cancelling my Netflix account. »

A second added: « Everyone at works thinks I’m quiet and boring but I’ve learnt a bit of small talk will get held against you, its not worth it! »
