Imagine the shock on the groom’s face when his bride-to-be read out messages from his mistress instead of their vows on their wedding day, with their family and friends watching in disbelief.
A bride’s wedding day should be one of the happiest days of her life, where she exchanges vows with the person she plans to spend the rest of her life with, surrounded by loved ones.
This was supposed to be the case for Casey* who thought she had found « the one » six years ago. Their families became close and their lives were intertwined.
She believed they would live « happily ever after » until the night before their wedding when everything fell apart.
Traditionally, the bride-to-be spends her last night as an unmarried woman with her bridesmaids at a hotel, away from her fiancé, so that’s what Casey did, away from her groom Alex*.
They were having fun and enjoying drinks when Casey received a message that turned her world upside down.
The message contained screenshots from an unknown woman and a number she didn’t recognise, with the chilling words: « I wouldn’t marry him. Will you? »
The screenshots were of messages between this woman and Casey’s soon-to-be-husband and included selfies of the pair as well.
The messages went back months and the most recent were only a few days before the wedding. She didn’t doubt the legitimacy of them and was appalled at their content.
She shared a few of them with Bodyandsoul. They read: « Your body is f**** incredible. And s**t do you know how to use it.
« I wish my girlfriend had half the skills you do. I miss you so much. I can’t stop thinking about L, S, F*** you. I’ve never had this kind of connection before. This weekend. You and I. It is on, hot stuff. Bring your A game. »
Naturally she was devastated over what she had seen and broke down, with her girls « threatening all manner of violence towards him ».
They wanted her to call Alex and confront him but she decided to sleep on it as she loved him and wanted to marry him the next day.
However after a night of little rest, she told her friends she was going to « out » him in front of all their guests. Casey donned her dress which now felt like « just a costume », walked down the aisle and came face to face with her groom, who could clearly tell something was up by the look on her face.
Casey shocked everyone when she said there’d be no wedding to Alex. « Alex tried to grab my hands but I put down my flowers to reveal my phone in my hand, » she shared.
« I read every single message that woman sent me. With each word, more colour went on Alex’s face. »
Alex didn’t speak and quickly left with his best man. Casey told everyone she loved them and invited them to a party instead of a wedding reception, celebrating « a celebration of honesty, finding true love and following your heart even when it hurts ». They ended up having « one hell of a party ».
