How to remove toilet limescale: 70p supermarket staple removes toilet limescale overnight

Toilet limescale often looks unpleasant and appears in the form of black, brown and even green stains in toilet bowl.

Toilets are particularly prone to limescale as they’re used frequently throughout the day and still water constantly sits inside the bowl making the perfect conditions for limescale to thrive.

Limescale will also likely be worse if you live in a hard water area.

Removing limescale from toilets can be tricky as certain chemicals and tools can make the problem worse.

With this in mind, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their tips for removing limescale from toilets.

Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, is a cleaning influencer who has almost five million followers on Instagram.

Over the years, her fans and followers have taken to social media to share their own tips for solving common household problems such as removing limescale.

On one such group, Facebook user Delaney Smith asked: « I have just moved into a property and it has these kind of rust-looking stains in the bottom of the bowl. Does anyone please know how I’d fix this? Thank you. »

Mrs Hinch fans confirmed that the stains were limescale which had left brown stains on the bottom of the toilet bowl.

The post was inundated with almost 50 comments on how to remove limescale from toilets with one of the most popular options being to use cola.

Angii Smith said: « Full-fat cola and leave overnight. Failing that, Black Harpic. »

Tilly Cat Mcgarr replied: « Cola. I moved in somewhere and the toilet was rank. I used coke, it actually works. »

Ami Wills agreed and posted: « Full-fat coke, leave overnight. »

Kaz Elizabeth Riley suggested: « Remove the water and put in cola. [It does an] excellent job. »

Full sugar cola can be bought from most local supermarkets, newsagents or online. Sainsbury’s cola, Tesco’s cola and Asda’s cola cost 70p. Morrisons cola costs 79p.

Other suggestions for removing toilet include using Black Harpic, Steradent and Spirit of salts.

Shannon Jade Dallimore commented: « Harpic Black bottle, leave overnight. May take a few goes depending on how bad it is but it’ll work. »
