Cleaning: Task you should do with you vacuum now to make hovering your house easy all year

As we transition into spring, you may hear the term spring cleaning more frequently. And it doesn’t just apply to dusting your home or giving it a good mop down. You should make sure the appliances you use to get your home clean, as well as other gadgets, are sanitary.

This extends all the way from your vacuum to your microwave. Here are some key things you should add to your cleaning list this spring.

Ensure your vacuum is ready for cleaning sprees

For optimal performance during your cleaning sessions, focus on maintaining your vacuum.

In addition to regularly emptying the vacuum canister, develop a routine of cleaning the dustbin and filter.

For stick vacuums, the canister or dustbin houses a Motor Filter and Fine Dust Filter. Clean the dustbin before it becomes full or hits the Max indicator. Aim to clean the filter once a month.

To differentiate between them, if you remove the filter and find it clean without grease or residue, your microwave likely has a ventilation-only filter.

As a general guideline, cleaning the grease filter every three months is recommended. However, for frequent microwave users, consider cleaning it more frequently, possibly every four to six weeks.

For a recirculation filter, it is advisable to change or clean it every six months. To maintain the cleanliness of your microwave filter, simply hand-rinse it with hot water, soap, and a mild detergent.

After washing, lightly shake it to dry. If time is limited, placing the grease filter in the dishwasher is also an option as they are typically made of stainless steel.
