Major search launched after child, 2, falls into icy cold Leicestershire river | UK | News

Police have launched a search after reports that a two-year-old boy has fallen into a river while out with his family in Leicestershire.

Emergency services, including water rescue teams, are on the scene and are searching the River Soar.

The reports came in at roughly 5pm, Leicestershire Police confirmed.

Officers and rescue teams are in Aylestone Road, in Braunstone.

Police say a man was taken to hospital as a « precautionary measure » after the incident.

A force spokesman said: « The operation is ongoing and will continue with additional specialist teams in the morning.

« We have had a number of offers of support to assist with the search and would kindly ask that people do not attend the scene due to rising water levels and safety risks. »

A fire and rescue service spokesman said: « This is a police-led incident. We can confirm we were alerted at 17:05 and still have water rescue teams at the scene. »
