Tommy Fury ‘in talks’ to face boxing legend after KSI fight – EXCLUSIVE | Boxing | Sport

John Fury confirms he has spoken to Roy Jones Jr about the possibility of the boxing legend fighting his son Tommy Fury. The pair came face-to-face in Saudi Arabia at the money-spinning Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou mega event where the idea was first floated around.

Now, Fury Sr says they are exploring the possibility of an exhibition bout and are planning on sitting down with the former four-weight world champion to thrash out a deal. “We’re speaking to Roy Jones Jr; we can do something with him, » Fury Sr told Express Sport via Free Bets UK.

« I’m giving it some thought at the time of speaking. Roy Jones Jr is a great guy. He’s a lovely fella, a standup man and a hall-of-fame great.”

Pressed on whether the discussions have centred around a fight between Tommy and Jones Jr, Fury Sr replied: “Yeah, maybe it is an exhibition or something, whatever he wants to do. We’ve not really spoken in great detail, but he did say over in Saudi ‘Let’s do something’ and we’re all ears. We just need to sit down and see what is best for Tommy and Roy Jones Jr.”

Jones Jr may have his best days behind him but the 54-year-old is still actively competing in the sport. In April, he went the distance with former UFC lightweight world champion Antony Pettis in a professional boxing bout before knocking out bodybuilder « NDO Champ » in the first-ever Metaverse boxing match two months later.

During a glistening professional boxing career stretching back to 1989, Jones Jr won world titles from middleweight all the way up to heavyweight. But despite retiring on multiple occasions RJ has been unable to kick the bug and now wants to share the ring with a boxer 30 years his junior.

The last time Tommy stepped between the ropes he defeated KSI via unanimous decision on the Misfits Boxing Prime Card at the Manchester Arena last month. Their bout was originally declared a majority decision but the result was altered after it was revealed that one scorecard had been added up incorrectly.

KSI felt he did enough to win the bout and has gone on to appeal the result with the Professional Boxing Association (PBA), the semi-professional sanctioning body that oversaw the bout. A hearing took place on Monday and a decision is set to be reached by the review panel and announced within 14 days.
