A mother-of-two who was horrifically stabbed to death in front of her two young children has now been named as Perseverance Ncube.

Police have now launched a murder investigation in Salford after the vile stabbing took place in the early hours of Friday.

The beloved mother, known as Persy to loved ones, was « found by her two young children with a single stab injury to the chest » in Little Hulton. 

Ms Ncube, 35, was rushed to hospital where she sadly died.

A suspect, 45, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. 

Witnesses reported seeing police arrive at 3am today, it is believed the stabbing happened at 2.40am.

One neighbour woke to screaming at 2.30am. She went outside to investigate and found Perseverance with a stab wound to her chest.

« We were all there looking after her. I was on the phone to the ambulance.There was four of us and a lad was given her compressions on her chest. It’s horrible – it’s really, really sad. »

Neighbours spoke of their shock, with one calling her a “wonderful woman”. « She was a lovely lady, » he added. « Nobody deserves that. » 

A woman added: « She was nice, she kept herself to herself. It’s so sad, so terrible. The poor kids – Christmas and no mum. »

« It’s horrible, » another neighbour added. « It’s just sad, that poor woman and her poor children. It’s really heartbreaking. »

Kingsley Adekunle, 44, said: « She was our neighbour. I didn’t know her by name, but we would always say hello. She was a very lovely lady. She was a calm and kind lady.

« Everyone is so shocked. I was asleep and then around 2am I started heading screaming. We were forced to come out and lots of the neighbours were already out. It’s very, very sad. You are just not expecting this. It’s unbelievable. »

People also took to social media to pay tribute to Perserverance, with Alysha Connor saying: « I knew this woman personally, she had the most amazing soul. A kind, caring, amazing mother to her children. I can’t get my head around this. I’ll cherish all our memories forever. Rest in peace, beautiful. »

Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: « We are in the early stages of our investigation, and an experienced team of detectives continue to work extremely hard to understand a comprehensive timeline of events that will help us piece together what has happened earlier this morning.

« This was a truly horrific attack on a mother, witnessed by her two young children and we really need the public to come forward and give information to us that may be able to assist our enquiries to find answers for them.

« A man, aged 45, fled the scene but has since been arrested by officers on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. Our inquiries at present suggest that the victim was known to the suspect and we believe that it was targeted attack.

« We recognise that incidents of this nature will understandably cause worry in our communities in Greater Manchester and to reassure members of the public, additional neighbourhood officers will be in and around the surrounding area over the coming days and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to come and speak to us.

« We urge people who were in the area at the time of the incident to contact us as a matter of urgency as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.

« We are also appealing to any motorists and residents in the area, who may have captured anything that may be of relevance to our investigation on Dashcam, CCTV or doorbell cameras to please contact us. »
