Looking for a cheap break? The best value destination in the world is luckily just a short flight away from the UK.

According to Lonely Planet’s prestigious ‘Best Value’ rankings, Poland is the best value holiday destination in the world.

A Lonely Planet spokesperson said: “Poland shines as one of Europe’s most affordable destinations, offering a superb range of quality travel experiences.

“Many visitors gravitate to cities like Warsaw, which is opening a new complex housing both the Museum of Modern Art and the TR Warszawa Theatre in 2024.

“But don’t sleep on Poland’s timeless countryside. In the Carpathian Mountains, hike the Icon Trail, passing through villages graced with old wooden churches.”

In general the average price of everyday items in Poland is much lower than in the UK with a meal at a mid-range restaurant costing around £9.82.

Lonely Planet recommends Browary Warszawskie, a brewery in Warsaw which is the capital city’s latest “social hot spot”. With craft beers and culinary treats, it’s a great spot to unwind.

Krakow, in the south of Poland, is another of the country’s top tourist destinations. The city’s Old Town is one of Europe’s most charming.

Outside of cities, Poland has some incredible natural scenery to explore. The Carpathian Mountains are an ideal spot to hike and get off the beaten track.

It might not have the warmest weather, but Poland is also home to some of Europe’s cheapest beach resorts.

Sopot is an incredibly affordable beach resort on Poland’s north coast and it’s easily reached on a quick flight to Gdansk. The resort has a sandy beach and several health spas.
