Mechanic emphasises the ‘big 3’ rule during used diesel truck shopping

A mechanic has streamlined your search for the ideal diesel truck by explaining the different benefits behind each of this vehicle class’s three big brands’ engines, which include General Motors’ Duramax, Ford’s Power Stroke, and Dodge Ram’s Cummins.

However, no matter which brand you choose, this auto technician, Andy, says you need to understand what you’re buying the diesel truck for.

In a TikTok video for Royalty Auto Service (@royaltyautoservice), Andy noted: “People that daily [drive them [diesel trucks] and aren’t towing with them, it’s a little bit different.

“So, you’re not putting them through the paces of what they’re designed for. Believe it or not, I usually see those to have the most amount of issues.”

Andy went as far as labelling buying a diesel truck without putting the vehicle through paces as a “waste of money” since that driving style is tough on the emission control system.

This TikTok’s mechanic noted: “I don’t think anybody rides better than Ford.”

He added: “If Chevy had the same ride quality Ford did, that truck would be the best on the market.”

Andy emphasised that motorists should still consider Cummins since he believes they’re much cheaper to work on, own, and maintain.

This experienced mechanic said the power within Cummins diesel engines doesn’t match up with Duramax or Power Stroke, but they’re slowly evolving.
