Man Utd ‘hold conversations’ about midfielder Liverpool walked away from signing | Football | Sport

Manchester United have reportedly included Khephren Thuram in discussions about potential summer deals with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ligue 1 club OGC Nice. The Red Devils are said to be eyeing three players from Nice at the start of a close relationship after Ratcliffe completed his £1.3billion deal for a 27.7 per cent stake.

United joined Nice and FC Lausanne-Sport on INEOS’ football portfolio when they officially took control of football operations in February.

It immediately sparked suggestions that the Old Trafford giants could utilise their newfound links to complete straightforward deals in the summer transfer window.

As the summer approaches, they are reportedly interested in three Nice players: Jean-Clair Todibo, Melvin Bard, and Thuram.

According to HITC, United held an interest in some of the French outfit’s players before Ratcliffe became co-owner earlier this year.

Now, senior INEOS figures are said to have held conversations over the possibility of sanctioning deals between the two clubs in the summer.

The report states that Thuram has emerged on United’s radar as he enters the final 12 months of his current Nice contract in July.

He is claimed to have been the subject of interest for several Premier League clubs in recent years, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old is now reportedly captivating United’s recruitment department, as the club plans to sign at least one midfielder at the end of the season.

Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek and Hannibal Mejbri all face uncertain futures at Old Trafford. Scott McTominay could also return to the shop window.

Thuram would add energy and technical quality to Ten Hag’s options as a squad option off the bench or a starter. The France U21 international’s contract situation could also help United strike a cut-price deal.

Among his previous suitors in England, Liverpool have been most strongly linked as recently as last summer. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds were priced out of a move.

The transfer guru told the Born And Red YouTube channel that Nice’s transfer valuation and Thuram’s salary demands were considered too expensive at Anfield.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will reignite their interest this summer, considering Jurgen Klopp is leaving, and the club has a new sporting structure helmed by returning chief Michael Edwards.

But Ratcliffe and INEOS’ arrival at United puts the M16 club in a strong position in any race for Thuram’s signature.
