Thinking of booking a winter mini-break? One of Europe’s best winter holiday destinations is also one of its most walkable.

The expert team at Preply looked at cities in Europe to see which were the most walkable. Cologne, one of Germany’s top destinations, landed in the top 10.

According to the team’s research, there’s under 2.5 miles between each of Cologne’s top attractions and it takes under 50 minutes to walk between each.

While the German city is a pretty destination to explore at any time of year, it’s exceptionally atmospheric during the Christmas season.

Cologne has a range of Christmas markets including the popular Market of Hearts around the Cathedral.

Meanwhile, the Market of Angels at Neumarkt near Cologne’s main shopping streets, is an incredible Christmas wonderland.

At Heinzels Winter Fairytale, holidaymakers can take to the ice on the city’s spectacular ice-rink.

The festive season is expected to kick off around November 20 with many of the markets open until December 23.

‌If you’re looking to book a holiday for 2024, there’s still plenty to do outside the Christmas season in the German city.

Cologne Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece while the Chocolate Museum dives into the city’s relationship with the sweet treat.

At Museum Ludwig, tourists can explore the city’s cultural side while the Hohenzollern Bridge is one of the best places to admire the view.
