Sought after beach huts have been swept into the sea as Storm Kathleen batters the UK. Dramatic footage has captured the Cornwall beachfront huts being whisked away by towering waves.

Falmouth Coastguard has now issued an urgent warning about a combination of strong winds, spring tides and storm surges. The swept away beach huts – which are three of 15 – were on the market for £295,000 along with a beachfront cafe.

Posting to its Facebook page Castle Beach Cafe said: “A sad morning but the café is in tact and completely fine.

“We are going to clear it up, and hopefully repairs will take place promptly. If anyone has a shovel and fancies getting the sand back onto the beach with us, I have the coffee machine on, so please come and grab a free coffee for all the helpers.

“We can still serve customers through the side door, but please be careful of the rubble. Emily x”

Locals have been quick to react to the post to offer their help in the clear up.

One said: “Oh Emily I’m so sad. But as long as the cafe is still standing and are the electrics ok? If so you get everyone you can to come and buy something today. Even if only a coffee to help you rebuild.

“If everyone in Falmouth could support Emily as soon as she’s able to open that would be the difference of new benches.”

There’s a Met Office yellow warning for wind across the South West in place due to storm Pierrick, named by Meteofrance.

Predictions from the Met Office suggest gusts of 45-55mph (72-89km/h), increasing to 60-65mph (97-105km/h) on exposed coasts, were likely to have been reached overnight.

They also indicated that there could be some gusts in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and south Devon reaching up to 75mph (121km/h).

There are 12 flood warnings in place across Devon and Cornwall with areas around Bude on the north coast and St Michael’s Mount on the south coast were among those places identified as at risk by The Environment Agency.

The Met Office has also advised the public of the potential risk of injury from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and seaside properties.

The warning also highlighted the possibility of power cuts and potential travel delays on roads, railways, ferries and at airports.
