Officers have since confirmed a 33-year-old woman, believed to be known to the girl, has been taken into custody for questioning and arrested on suspicion of murder. A police cordon remains in place where locals have gathered to leave tributes to the girl.
Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt said: « A young girl has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and all those impacted by this terrible passing.
« We know how shocking and distressing this will be for the community and we’ll continue to have a police presence and offer our support in the area over the coming days.
« A suspect has been arrested and detectives are fully investigating the circumstances around this sad death. »
According to BirminghamLive, police have been standing guard outside a house in the area for hours since the incident unfolded at around 12.10pm today (March 4).
Forensic tents have also been erected in the cul-de-sac as the investigation commences. Among the tributes left near the cordon are teddy bears and toys.
