Jurgen Klopp storms out of interview and mocks reporter’s appearance after Man Utd loss | Football | Sport

Jurgen Klopp said that a reporter was ‘not in great shape’ before walking away from a post-match interview after Liverpool‘s dramatic FA Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester United. The Red Devils left it late to claim a historic 4-3 victory over their greatest rivals, with Amad Diallo’s winner in the dying seconds of extra time sending Liverpool out of the tournament.

Liverpool led twice but were pegged back on each occasion, with Harvey Elliott scoring what he thought was the decisive goal in extra-time before Marcus Rashford and Amad struck for United. Klopp was in a prickly mood after the final whistle, with the 56-year-old storming out of an interview with Viaplay after furiously mocking the reporter’s appearance.

The Reds manager was irked by the line of questioning when the reporter asked: « Normally, intensity is the name of your game, so how come it became so difficult in extra time? » Klopp was visibly frustrated as he issued a stern response, saying: « A bit of a dumb question, I have to say, because you see us that often.

« If you never saw us, you could ask: ‘How can they have more resources?’. We played so many games recently. I don’t know exactly how many games United played. I’m really disappointed about that question, but you obviously thought it was good. »

The reporter followed up by asking: « So too many games? » before Klopp snapped back: « Oh, come on. You are obviously not in great shape and I have no nerves for you. »

Liverpool’s injury-hit squad pushed United all the way for 120 minutes but were left empty-handed at the final whistle in spite of their best efforts. They have been fighting on multiple fronts in recent weeks, with the Reds still battling in the Premier League title race as well as the Europa League knockout stages.

The Merseyside giants will be desperate to bounce back at the very next opportunity, with Brighton set to visit Anfield in their first Premier League game after the international break. However, it remains to be seen if further injuries will give Klopp a selection headache after he confirmed that three players were carrying knocks against United.

In a separate interview with ITV Sport, Klopp said: « Now the boys go on international duty, we hope they come back healthy. Lucho [Diaz] felt his groin, Darwin [Nunez] hamstring. Cody [Gakpo] twisted his ankle. They play again in four or five days, it’s crazy. Hopefully we will finish the season in style. I really feel for our people. »
