Easily remove oven glass stains with cleaner’s cheap homemade ‘paste’

A grimy oven window may seem difficult to wipe away, especially if it’s been baking on the glass for weeks, months, or even years, but a simple solution could do the trick.

All you will need are five household objects that you will most likely already have in the home.

The equipment needed includes microfibre clothes, a bowl, a razor blade (which is optional), water and baking soda.

The first thing you must do is « wipe off any loose bits of grime with a damp microfiber cloth », the experts at Merry Maids advised.

The next step is to make the cleaning paste that will work its magic on grimy oven doors.

« Pour the baking soda in the bowl, » the experts instructed. « Slowly add water to the baking soda to make a paste. »

Once its consistency is that of shaving cream, you have the perfect paste to clean the oven.

« Spread the paste on the inside of the oven window, » the experts continued. « Let this sit for around 15 to 20 minutes. »

The next step is to « moisten a clean microfiber cloth and wipe the paste away », using the razor blade to « gently scrape » any remaining gunk.

« Make certain to use the flat edge and not the corner so that you don’t scratch your glass, » the experts advised.

Steps one to seven might need to be repeated, but once the glass is sparkly clean, you can use a dry microfibre cloth to buff out any streaks on the glass.

As for the outside of the oven door, the side facing the outside world, it’s a much easier process.

All you need is lemon juice or distilled white vinegar and a microfibre cloth to give the oven glass door a good wipe.

How often should I clean my oven?

Ron Shimek, the president of Mr. Appliance, a Neighborly company, said: « Having excess residue built up in your oven will not only make your food taste unpleasant, but will also make your oven work harder to cook or bake your food to the ideal temperature. »

Shimek shared with Martha Stewart that ovens should be cleaned at least once every three months, depending on how often you use the appliance.

Some newer ovens have a self-cleaning function, which can make the job a lot easier. To use self-cleaning ovens effectively, it’s strongly advised to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
