Luke Littler sends darts crowd wild with epic nine-darter to start Bahrain Masters match | Other | Sport

Luke Littler set the Bahrain Masters crowd alight by hitting a sensational nine-dart finish on his first visit against Nathan Aspinall on Friday. The 16-year-old sensational was appearing in just his second match after reaching the World Darts Championship final and wasted no time stealing the headlines.

Littler beat world No 4 Nathan Aspinall 6-3 in Bahrain to book a mouth-watering semi-final against Gerwyn Price later in the evening.

He defeated Man Lok Leung by the same scoreline on his World Series of Darts debut on Thursday and doesn’t look to be slowing down after winning the hearts of the nation at Alexandra Palace this winter.

There was an air of excitement ahead of Littler’s first-time-ever clash against Aspinall. But The Asp couldn’t stop the incredible teenage talent from continuing his momentum.

He didn’t get much of a chance to stop him, to be fair.

Aspinall looked as impressed as he was shocked when Littler stepped up to the oche for his first visit of the match and hit two 180s, then a treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 to record a stunning nine-darter.

In the first leg of his first-ever World Series quarter-final, he became only the second player to hit a nine-darter in the competition after Phil Taylor.

He also averaged 104.50, managed 60 per cent success on his doubles and totalled six 180s. Littler is the real deal.

Bahrain is the first of seven World Series tournaments before the finals in Amsterdam in September.

The Dutch Masters take place later this month before the US Masters, Nordic Masters and Poland Masters go down in the summer.

August will play host to the Australian Masters and New Zealand Masters before the finals in the Dutch capital. Littler will undoubtedly be looking to go the distance.

After his latest victory, The Nuke expressed his delight with the nine-darter and progression to the final four but insisted he’s keen to take his career from game to game.

Littler told ITV: « I’m just glad to win, and I think I played really well. It’s good to get one [a nine-darter] on TV – the first one of the year goes to me. Hopefully, I hit a few more!

« I just take it game by game. If I win, I win. If I lose my next game, it is what it is. »

Littler will face Price next after the Welshman ended world champion Luke Humphries’ 20-match win streak earlier in the day.
