RMT suspends London Underground strikes | UK | News
The London Underground strikes have been suspended, the RMT union has confirmed.
The strikes had threatened to halt all London Underground services across the next four days, but appear to have been halted at the last minute.
In a statement, the RMT confirmed it had suspended the actions following talks with Transport for London.
London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, said on X: « This week’s Tube strikes have now been suspended. Londoners and visitors to our city will no longer face several days of disruption.
« This shows what can be achieved by engaging with trade unions and transport staff rather then working against them. »
Prior to the suspension Transport for London (TfL) had been advising people to complete their tube journeys by 5.30pm today as services were prepared for planned disruption until next weekend.
Strikes were called after an RMT dispute over a five percent pay offer and other issues including travel facilities.
Khan had previously described the action as « bad news for everyone » but said « constructive engagement » between his office and unions would be able to avert the strikes as has now happened.
Planned action would have seen « little to no service » on the London Underground as various departments planned to strike on different days.
Passengers had been urged to only travel on the strike days if their journey is « essential ».
Elizabeth Line, London Overground and DLR services had been expected to run with some disruption.
