Scores of passengers, including a family with a 10 month old baby, have been trapped in a dark and cold train for hours in London. Damage to overhead wires has caused a power cut to services between Paddington, Heathrow and Reading.
Commuters have been stuck on-board one Elizabeth Line train for more than two hours, and have been plunged into darkness as lights on-board the carriages are not working.
Now, frantic passengers have taken to banging windows in the hope of attracting the attention of police – who are said to be at the scene. Lucas L, who boarded the train at 6.39pm from Farringdon, told Express.co.uk: « There is a message being passed down the train that the police is here to rescue us but not sure how long it wil take.
« We can see police walking around. People are knocking on windows to get their attention. » Trains running to and from the station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 80 minutes, National Rail said.
Another woman, who was hoping to reach Heathrow Airport to catch a flight back to Hong Kong said she is stranded with her baby.
In a statement on its website, National Rail said the problems are down to « damage to the overhead electric wires between London Paddington and Acton Main Line », meaning « all lines are blocked ».
In addition, the statement advised, trains won’t be stopping at stations between Paddington and Heathrow or Reading and services towards Shenfield will all start at London Liverpool Street.
Another passenger Harold Shipman, who was on his way to Acton, told Express.co.uk that tensions are becoming frought among passengers and claimed one incident involving an « XL Bully » dog had taken place.
He claimed: « There is an XL Bully inside the train which has bitten a man too.. really distressing scenes. Someone’s just punched me, they are threatening to release the XL Bully on me. I have run to another carriage. »
Network Rail has not advised of an action plan to get people off the dark and cold carriages and into safety.
Worried passengers are forcing doors open to exit the trains using their phones as torches.
