The monarch, 95, joined members of the local community in the ballroom of Sandringham House on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee.

During the engagement, the head of state cut an iced Victoria sponge cake decorated with the Jubilee emblem to begin her Platinum year.

The Queen, wearing a pale blue dress with white brocade and carrying her black handbag, cut an iced Victoria Sponge featuring the Platinum Jubilee logo as its decoration at the reception.

When Lady Dannatt, Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, told her the cake had been turned upside down so press photographers could get a good shot, the Queen joked: “I don’t matter?”

“I think I might just put a knife in it,” the Queen said, adding it “went in beautifully”, but that she would leave it to someone else to finish cutting the cake, baked by a local resident.

However, the 95-year-old monarch was trolled by some of the social media users after a photograph of her cutting a cake surfaced online.

In the photograph, Her Majesty is seen wielding a knife and stabbing into the cake.

One Twitter user, Lucylee, commented: “Did she stab the cake?”

Calling it the most “extraordinary message”, former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt told the PA news agency: “The Queen is ensuring the transition, when it comes, to her son as king is as seamless and trouble free as possible.

“She’s future-proofing an institution she’s served for seventy years.

Harry and Meghan ‘still learning what went on behind their backs’ after Megxit

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are « still learning about things that went on behind their backs » while they were senior royals, according to a royal biographer.

The co-author of Finding Freedom, a flattering unauthorised biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, discussed the claim Camilla was « miffed » when the Queen named Meghan patron of the National Theatre.

Royal commentator Omid Scobie believes the alleged remark by Camilla further proves Meghan and Harry made the « right decision » when they stepped down as full-time working royals.

He said: « What I found really interesting about the coverage of that handover was a source claiming that Camilla was ‘miffed’ Meghan had originally been given the role, which gives you further insight into some of the true feelings of how other members of the Royal Family felt about Harry and Meghan long before they even stepped away.

« Even now, Harry and Meghan are still learning about things that went on behind their backs or behind the scenes before they left.

« If anything, these stories are perhaps a reminder to them that they made the right decision. »
