1)Aboubakar Breaks Eto’o’s Record

Cameroon’s Talisman, Aboubakar Vincent has surpassed Samuel Eto’o , Shaun Bartlett, Gedo and Odion Ighalo’sRecord of being the only players in the 21st Century to score 5 goals in an Edition of the
Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

The Al-Nassr Forward’s strike against Comoros in the Round of 16 took his Tally to 6 goals in the 2021 edition of the Biggest African Sports Tournament making him the 1st player in this century to score 6+ goals in the AFCON.
No one has succeeded to achieve this feat from the year 2000 up till January 24, 2022.
AFCON all time top goal scorer Samuel Eto’o netted 5 times twice, in 2006 and 2008  ,Shaun Bartlett of South Africa scored 5 goals in the year 2000, Egypt’s Gedofound the net 5 times in 2010 while Nigerias OdionIghalo registered his name on the score sheet 5 times in the 2019 AFCON.

Aboubakar is now 4 goals shy of becoming the highest scoring player at an AFCON ever.

The current record is nine, from Zaire’s (Now known as DR Congo )  Ndaye Mulamba back in 1974.

Nationally, he is the only Cameroonian to slot in 6 in an edition in the 65 year existence of the AFCON ahead of Cameroon Football Federation’s President, Samuel Eto by a goal.

2) Equals Mbomas Cameroon Record

In the African Football Power house , Cameroon, Vincent Aboubakar is also climbing the all time highest Goal Scorer Chart.

According to the MagazineThe Africa Report,  the Goal scoring machine scored his 28th and 29th goals for Cameroon when he struck twice against Burkina Faso in the AFCON 2021 opener.

Since then, the 30 year old has added 4 goals as he netted twice against Ethiopia, and a goal each in the Cape Verde and Comoros games taking his tally to 33 for country.

He is now joint Fourth all time top goal scorer for Cameroons Senior Mens National team alongside Cameroon Legend Patrick Mboma who also counts 33 goals.

Only Samuel Eto’o (56 goals), François Omam-Biyik(45) and Roger Milla (36) are ahead of the Cameroon Captain.

3) Becomes First Cameroonian to score in More than 3 Consecutive AFCON Matches


Aboubakar Vincent has surpassed Football Legend Samuel Eto’o’s record of scoring in 3 consecutive Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON matches
for the Indomitable Lions.
Aboubakar’s  goals against Cape Verde made him the first Cameroonian to score in 4 consecutive AFCON games.
He even went Further to make it 5 successive games when he sent the make shift goalkeeper of Comoros, Chaker Alhadhur the wrong way with his skills to slot in his 6th goal of AFCON 2021 that has extended this record.
The Cameroon Captain began his scoring streak in the Final of the 2017 AFCON
against Egypt and then missed the 2019 edition due to an injury. From the 1st day of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021 ,the 30 year old looked like he wanted to do some serious catching up as he netted a brace against
Burkina Faso, followed with another two goals in their clash with Ethopia on day two and crowned the group stages with another vital goal against Cape Verde.
In the 8th final, he made it 5 matches that he has put the ball at the back of the net in a row in Cameroon’s Clashagainst Comoros.
The Top goal scorer of the on going Football Jamboree’s prowess infront of goal has therefore dethroned fellow countryman and Football Icon, Samuel Eto’o Fils from this National position he has been holding since AFCON 2008 where he scored in 3 successive matches.

4) Equals Roger Milla’s AFCON Goals.

World Cup Legend and Cameroon Football Celebrity, Roger Milla’s 7 goals in the AFCON is the 3rd highest for any Cameroonian in Africa’s Premier National Competition. But after the 24th of January 2022 ,The Roving Ambassador in the Central African Nation now shares this record with Aboubakar Vincent  who found the net for the 7th time in the Tournament when he struck against Comoros.

5)Equals AFCON Group Stage Record

The talismanic striker Aboubakar is also the 4th indomitable lion player to have scored
at least one goal in each of his 3 AFCON group matches after Roger Milla in
1986, Alphonse Tchami in 1998 and Samuel Etoo in 2006 and 2008.

And With Vincent Aboubakar still having a game to play in AFCON 2021,The Records of many African legends are now on the line as more goals might be awaiting the inform number 10 who says this 33rd edition will be his last AFCON.
